What to know

  • It rings only while a ChromePing tab is open. There’s no forward-to-your-phone or push notification yet, so if no tab is open the call is logged as missed. “Forward when offline” is on the roadmap, not shipped.
  • Voice calls only — not texts. You can’t receive SMS on a ChromePing number, so it isn’t an SMS-verification or burner-texting number.
  • US and Canada today. Other countries need extra verification and aren’t available yet.
  • Local numbers, not toll-free. You get a normal local number, not an 800/toll-free line.
  • If your credit runs out, the number lapses. We retry for a few days, then the number is suspended and released — and you may not get the same one back. Keep a little credit on hand.

How do I get a phone number that rings in my browser instead of on a phone?
Rent a US or Canada number inside ChromePing for $2.99/month, taken from your credit balance. Calls to it then ring in any open ChromePing browser tab — laptop or phone browser — and you answer right there. No app, no SIM. US and Canada numbers activate instantly.
Do I have to keep a tab open to receive calls?
Yes — this is the honest limit. A ChromePing number rings only while a ChromePing tab is open in a browser somewhere. There's no forward-to-your-phone or push notification yet, so if nothing's open the call doesn't reach you and shows up as a missed call in your history.
Can I receive text messages (SMS) on a ChromePing number?
No. ChromePing numbers are for voice calls only — you can't receive SMS on them, so they aren't burner texting numbers or a way to catch SMS verification codes. If a service needs to call you to read out a code, that works; if it sends a text, it won't arrive.
What does it cost to receive calls?
$2.99 per month per number, taken from your ChromePing credit — that's the whole cost of the number, and it covers receiving. Incoming calls don't spend per-minute credit. Calling out is separate and pay-as-you-go (US and Canada are 1.9¢/min, billed by the second); every country's rate is on the rates page.
What happens if my credit runs out?
If there isn't enough credit to cover a monthly renewal, we retry for a few days first. Past that grace window the number is suspended and then released, and billing stops. You may not be able to get the same number back afterward, so it's worth keeping a little credit on hand.
Which countries can I get a number in, and how many can I have?
Right now you can self-serve local numbers in the United States and Canada — both activate instantly with no ID upload. Other countries need extra verification and aren't offered yet. You can keep up to 5 numbers on one account, each with its own ring on/off switch, and release any of them anytime.
Can the number I rent also be my caller ID when I call out?
Yes. A rented US or Canada number can double as your outbound caller ID — pick “use this number” on it and your calls display it instead of a shared ChromePing number. It's display-only and doesn't change your per-minute rate. You can also verify a phone you already own separately.
